Bomb run.

Scenario
When the High Counsil get's the word of the brutal attack on one of his Senators he orders his misterious Admiral know as Overlord to handle the retaliation.
A deathstar is ordered to the region to restore order and respect for the Empire ounce and for all.

Setup
2 team with 3 ships each.*
The deathstar will be constructed from 3 ships that are welded together in such way that the will stay all three at the same location. The three ships will manouvre as it

appears as a single ship. In plain words. The ships will end their movement in 1 and the same hex each turn, this to simulate the complexity of moving a large ship around. (i

know that this will be a challenge for me)

Limits opposed
Rebels
Fighter value : 900
Only range 4 weapons allowed
Only 1 range 6 weapon allowed
Only inertia mines allowed
No range 8 weapons allowed
No missiles or rockets.
* The Rebels will fight with 2 (two) ships only.
One will run off screen to get reinforments, if any.

Empire
All in.
- This is the empire so what will you expect.
Fighter value : 990 max

Yes.
The accounts Unit1/2/3 will make up the deathstar. The account AshayRey will take one ship of the rebels and flee to the border at once without participating in any fight. That leave 2 rebels and 3 empires ships, as a hard to move around deathstar on the battlefield.

A bigger budget won't give the Empire a much better ship. According me this is doable with the right tactic since the deathstar is just a badly manouverable fortress that is concentrated on on hex. (hint )

It turns out that trying to get 3 ships dead still in one hex is quiet a task. One that hamper playability much. So i proposed in game a option to have the deathstar as a 3 hex ship where 3 ships are toughing each other all the time on atleast one side.

this could be a solution.
anyway the "self-moving fortress" that is the point of the scenario is a cool idea but not really effective on VP, wihtout some indipendent escort fighters protecting it, the deathstar is too slow and can be easily hitten losing movment capability and becoming more easy to be got from bullets.
since to damage the movment of one single deathstar's unit reduce movment of all other units the self moving fortress is basically a big flying grave in a clash with a storm of like 3 or 4 "interceptor like" fighters armed with also inertial grenades.
in effect this is quite realistic, a flying fortress like airplane became an easy target if attacked by many fighters and it is wihtout some escorts.
maybe u can take down some of the assaulters ,but if they attack u carefully at the end u will be shoot down.

a solution could be to deploy a "Deathstar" ( 3 attached ships ) + 1 indipendent escort fighter ( match 4 vs 4 )
or something like a "Cruiser" ( 2 attached ships ) + 2 indipendet escort fighters ( match 4 vs 4 ).
these "combat fleet makeups" should be much more effective and realistic,and more of all playable, because u could use the escort/s fighters to protect flanks and to counterattack,leaving the main unit free to support them with a strong firepower, as it's usually done in reality's combats.

just an idea popping up at the moment.

That are these experimental games all about. Popping up ideas and testing them while having some fun in the meantime. As i am a big fan of Fasa's Interceptor/Leviathan game i was thinking about introducing largers ships for some time now. Funny that you come up with it too. I really would like to try a 2 hex/ship configuration combat. I also would like to try out the Fleet Commander versie too.

Conclusion
A deathstar type of game is very hard to do. VP mechanics aren't very suitable at this moment to do it. The biggest problem is to keep the ships close together.

For now this type of game is on hold
