Kill Credit

Message 1962, 330d 22h ago.
An interesting VP game has me thinking about how kill credit is handed out.

In VP game 4810 on turn 12 AshayRey is destroyed but 2 enemy missiles. One of the missiles was launched long ago by Zarby who is KIA already. The second missile is from Hollander who retires from battle on that same turn.

Credit for killing AshayRey was awarded solely to Hollander.
Credit for Hollander retiring was awarded to cannis & AshayRey.

I don't think either credit award is correct. AshayRey is KIA and should not benefit from Hollander retiring. Also Zarby should get credit for his missile hitting AshayRey. There is a long president for KIA pilots getting kills with lingering missiles and getting the credit for it.

Kill Credit

Message 1963, 330d 20h ago. In reply to message 1962.
Hello Zarby, long time no see!

My apologies to everyone for not much online these weeks. In particular: BlckKnght, I did receive your mail about the forum formatting issue. This forum was more or less the first thing I ever programmed in PHP, and I still hadn't realised how magic quotes work and stuff like that.

I am planning on fixing the issue, as well as adding an "edit" button for past messages. Unfortunately I am overly busy these days. Meh. The other day I was counting the number of times I've moved since TaP was born, and the count was staggering...

Anyways. Back to Zarby's criticism:

1) KIA pilots getting credit for missile kills. I totally agree with you Zarby and I am quite surprised that it doesn't work the way you'd expect it to. I'm gonna have to have a look at the code, it should be a minor fix.

2) Credit for enemy pilot retiring to KIA pilots. If I remember correctly (but as you can see from point 1 I might not), a KIA pilot gets credit for another pilot retiring only on if s/he is killed in that same round. Simultaneous action selection is the rationale here: the retired pilot was probably scared by the presence of the KIA pilot when s/he decided to retire this round (or, as is often the case, on an earlier round!). If this is truly how it works, I am not planning to change this particular ruling.

Thanks for your feedback!

Hello Neko,

This website, the monster you created, must have matured when it can go for weeks without it's creator..

just my way to say that did and still do a good job running this thing. don't worry about us when real life catches up and distracts you from this hobby project. thanks.
